Passengers in London can now be paired with an autonomous Ford Mustang Mach-E when booking UberX, Uber Electric, or Uber Comfort trips. The pilot marks the first operational deployment of British AI startup Wayve's Embodied AI on commercial ride-hailing networks.
Unlike traditional AV architectures that rely on painstakingly pre-scanned High-Definition (HD) maps, Wayve’s AV2.0 platform operates end-to-end. Visual sensors and spatial foundation models allow the vehicle to make real-time driving decisions dynamically, navigating London's notoriously complex roundabouts and unpredictable weather without prior geofencing limitations.
"Embodied AI learns from experience like a human driver, allowing us to deploy seamlessly in complex urban centers without months of pre-mapping."
In-Cabin User Experience
Each vehicle features Uber-designed interactive rear seat screens supporting 64 languages, displaying route telemetry, real-time bounding boxes of surrounding cyclists, and one-touch trip initialization.
