Stellantis has announced two European design appointments effective November 2, 2026. Sandeep Bhambra takes responsibility for design at Citroën and DS Automobiles, while Pierre Leclercq becomes design head for Opel and Vauxhall, according to the company announcement.
Bhambra succeeds Leclercq at Citroën and Thierry Metroz at DS. Leclercq succeeds Mark Adams, who is retiring after nearly 25 years with Opel and Vauxhall. Both appointees report to Gilles Vidal, head of design for Stellantis’ European brands.
What the appointments establish
The announcement identifies who is responsible for the brands’ design work from the effective date. It does not provide a new model-launch calendar or say that existing vehicles will immediately receive different styling.
That distinction matters when interpreting leadership news. The person taking responsibility for a design organisation should not automatically be credited with every vehicle revealed shortly afterwards. Assessing authorship requires evidence about the actual development programme and the people involved.
Separate brand identity from shared management
One designer’s responsibility for two brands does not, by itself, establish that their future products will look alike. The useful evidence will be the designs themselves and the explanations accompanying them.
For readers following this change, worthwhile questions include how each brand describes its intended customers, which features it preserves and where it makes a deliberate departure. Those questions can be tested against later announcements rather than answered by speculation today.
Existing concepts remain useful context
Our Opel STX Concept report records a design study revealed before these appointments. It is background for understanding the brand’s recent direction, not evidence of a new project initiated by the incoming leadership.
The recently launched Car Concepts podcast provides another route into the company’s design discussions. As with any manufacturer production, individual accounts should be read with their source and timing in view.
Passion4Drive has not interviewed the newly appointed leaders. This report covers the announced organisational changes without predicting unannounced products.
