Maserati Classiche has certified a 1970 Ghibli SS Coupé owned by the Maserati family, the company announced on November 3. The announcement coincides with 60 years since the Ghibli’s unveiling at the Turin Motor Show on November 3, 1966.
Maserati’s account identifies the car as chassis AM115/491948, produced on November 25, 1970. It says the original Oro Longchamps exterior has been replaced by Giallo Fly paint, while the black leather interior remains original.
Why the paint history matters
Those details illustrate why a historic car’s story needs more than an “original” label. The manufacturer describes both a certification and a change of exterior colour. Readers should retain both facts rather than interpreting certification as a claim that every visible feature is unchanged from delivery.
For a collector evaluating a different car, the useful questions concern what was examined, what was documented and which changes were recorded. A certificate’s scope should be read alongside its supporting evidence; another vehicle bearing the same model name does not inherit that evidence.
What the programme examines
Maserati describes its authenticity process as an assessment of technical characteristics, historical documentation and factory archive records by an expert committee. The announcement does not provide a complete inspection dossier for this particular car.
That limits the conclusions readers can draw from the public release. It is evidence of the manufacturer’s announced certification, not an independent road test, a current mechanical-condition report or a transaction valuation.
Keep identity and maintenance evidence separate
A documented identity answers a different question from the work a vehicle may currently need. Our service-records checklist offers a practical way to organise dated maintenance evidence alongside other ownership documents.
The anniversary gives this announcement its timing; the individual car’s documented history gives it substance. Passion4Drive has not inspected the Ghibli or reviewed the underlying certification dossier.
